US Universities and H-1B Applications
Posted by admin on April 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Dear Friends,
People from around the world come to study at the great institutions of higher learning in the United States and this week, my son – soon to be a college student – and I visited Harvard, Columbia, Tufts, New York University and many many more. International experience, such as work opportunities in China, campuses in France and study abroad for over 50% of all students, was emphasized by all of the schools. You know the world is interrelated when, at Columbia University on Broadway in New York City, an admissions officer, born in Mexico, shares the responsibility for selecting students from applicants representing all 50 of the United States and over 70 countries. Is the world getting smaller? Or are the opportunities getting bigger?
H-1B Applications
As of April 9, the USCIS had received approximately 42,000 H-1B petitions for the 65,000 slots available. They are still accepting applications.
This week we have Work and Travel opportunities for students.

Holiday Shopping and Updated I-9 Form

Volume 6, Number 39
Dear Friends,
Shopping is one of the Holiday Season’s requisite activities here in the US. And a young lady I know (my 11 year-old daughter) has a clear opinion on this important pass-time. “If I had a free day I would shop ’til I drop! I would go to San Francisco’s Westfield Mall. They have all the best shops in the world and they have food on the bottom level when you get hungry. When I’m done eating, I can continue shopping. What a perfect day that would be!” Unless you are Daddy and have to pay for it.
Updated I-9 Form
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Employment Eligibility Verification Form, the I-9, will be updated. The new form will require all documents used for verifying work eligibility to be current. The new forms will not go into use until after being published in the Federal Register for 45 days.
We are starting to get more new open positions from Country Clubs in the New York area that will begin in the spring of next year.

Police Donuts; Visa Issued in Record Speed

Volume 6, Number 38
Dear Friends,
“Why are American policemen always in donut shops?” a Japanese friend asked.
Good Question. Why are American police – large intimidating men and women, with big hats, big sticks and big guns – eating those sweet little donuts? (This would be unthinkable in other, more “proper” countries, like Japan.) The reason it seems, has to do with manners. Though it is illegal to “give” a police officer free food, it would be impolite for a shop owner not to give the nice officer a very discounted snack. It is a win-win situation. Low price donuts and free police presence.
Record Speed
On November 18 we received an expedited application for an individual from the Dominican Republic who was going to do a J Training program in Florida. The DS was sent out on November 20 and the interview, on November 25, was passed. From application to visa in one week.
We are continuing to receive requests from hosts in the New York area for hospitality workers for the coming spring and summer.

News about Jobs in Canada
Posted by admin on November 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment
It is an historic week here as the US as Barack Obama was elected President, the first non-white person to hold this position. Americans picked him to lead the country in “Change” and, with an African father, then raised in Indonesia, he certainly is a change from our past Presidents. Obama also represents a new hope not just for Americans who have felt left-out of the political process – tens of thousands of Americans voted for the first time because of him – but also for those who have suffered in the current economic crisis or done poorly during the last 8 years under the current President. Even with all the difficulties facing the country – and the world – he has that prototypically American attitude: he does not just believe he can fix things, he expects to fix things!
Positions in Canada
For those people who will be finishing their J programs we have a new program offering job placements in Canada. Contact us for more information.
