Police Donuts; Visa Issued in Record Speed

December 5, 2008

Volume 6, Number 38

Dear Friends,

“Why are American policemen always in donut shops?” a Japanese friend asked.
Good Question. Why are American police – large intimidating men and women, with big hats, big sticks and big guns – eating those sweet little donuts? (This would be unthinkable in other, more “proper” countries, like Japan.) The reason it seems, has to do with manners. Though it is illegal to “give” a police officer free food, it would be impolite for a shop owner not to give the nice officer a very discounted snack. It is a win-win situation. Low price donuts and free police presence.

We are continuing to receive requests from hosts in the New York area for hospitality workers for the coming spring and summer.
